Hey, I’m Megan Lockhurst or ‘Megs’ as a lot of people call me and I’m a Canadian actress living and working in the UK.
1.When did you first realise you wanted to be a an actor?
It was around 4 years ago I decided to change my direction and become an actor. I had been in a band for several years but things just werent working out the way I had wanted them to. One day, after a long night of trying to figure out what I wanted to do with my life, I woke up with a lightbulb moment. I was going to be an actor and I’ve been pushing forward ever since!
2.At what age did you first start acting?
I actually started acting from the age of 5. I was in various school plays and was ad-libbing before I knew what ad-libbing was. By the age of 19, I majored in Musical Theatre and studied vocals in school. Though I had originally planned to carry my training further, life brought me to the UK and for years my acting was left on the back burner.
3.What was your first big break and how did it arise?
I guess in a way I’m still waiting on that ‘big break’. I feel so lucky with the opportunities I’ve had and I’ve met some amazing people along the way. Every opportunity has lead to a fantastic experience. I’ve learnt so much and I’m so excited to see what the future has in store.
4.What would you say is your biggest achievement so far?
That’s a really tough question as I feel every hurdle I jump and every box I tick is another achievement I can be proud of. I have so many goals that I am working towards that will help me succeed in this industry. This year, one of my big goals was to qualify for Equity, which I managed to do within the first two months of the year.
5.How do you like to stay fit?
I’ve always been an active person and have enjoyed sports and general outdoor games most of my life. Currently, I walk 3-4 miles each day in the countryside and try to hit the gym once a week. I’ve recently started drinking morning shakes and am doing my best to eat a balanced diet.
6.What’s your favourite food?
My favourite food is chocolate!
7.Any advice for people wanting to start acting?
Everyone is different in the way they start. For me, I came from a business background so I market myself as a brand instead of an actress. The best advice I can give is to just do it. Make a game plan for yourself and set yourself goals you can hit and goals that will take time to hit. Always give yourself a direction. For me, it was to be an actress in Film/TV. For other’s, it might be theatre. Know your WHY reason and everything else will fall into place with hard, persistent work. Don’t be afraid to fail, laugh at yourself, laugh with others and just have fun!
8.What’s the funniest thing that has happened to you recently?
I actually had a massive laughing attack the other day whilst making dinner. A friend of mine sent me a picture of this man called ‘Meghan Lockhurst’ and told me this guy was trying to take my identity. It was just a little thing, but it did give me a chuckle.
9.What’s song best describes you?
‘Unforgettable’ – Nat King Cole. Okay, it’s cheesy by such a good song 😛
10.What would you be if you weren’t a actor?
Retired… I’m just kidding, if I wasn’t an actor, I think a career in military phycology would be interesting. I enjoy helping other’s and for me it’s important to do something that can make a difference in this world.
11.Tell me something about you not many people know?
At the age of 19, a friend and I were celebrating the end of high school when she had convinced me to do a two for one belly button piercing down this strange back alley boardwalk. I still to this day have no idea what I was thinking. Oh to be young!
12.What do you like doing in your free time?
I enjoy exploring and spending time outdoors. I’m also a massive fan of gaming, though I get as much joy playing as I do watching!
13.What do you think is the most interesting thing about you?
I absolutely love crystals and am a natural energy reader. I have a massive cabinet full of different crystal specimens and love using them in meditations. I’m intuitive and can normally sense if something is off.
14.What was your nickname at school?
I’m sure I had a few but I don’t overly remember. ‘Megs’ has definitely stuck with me for years though.
15.What three things do you need to be successful in this industry?
I would definitely say drive, passion and reason.
